About Us

Homesteading isn’t a place—it’s a state of mind.

At Mayflower Homestead, we’re dedicated to empowering homesteaders with the tools, resources, and inspiration needed to cultivate a sustainable and self-sufficient lifestyle. And so, whatever your vision; whatever your budget—there’s something here for you.

Our journey began with a simple desire to reconnect with nature, embrace sustainable living practices, and savor the satisfaction of a self-reliant lifestyle. We believe that everyone, regardless of where they live, can incorporate the principles of homesteading into their daily lives, and we’re here to help you do just that!

Our Team

Molly Olsen-Sumner

Founder

Molly embarked on her homesteading adventure as she expanded her kitchen garden in her apartment in Boston to her (small) backyard. She wanted to reduce her exposure to pesticides and be more self-sufficent. Now she’s nurturing a variety of crops, raising livestock, and preserving Mayflower Homestead’s harvests. Passionate about honing age-old skills, she wanted to be a resource for those who were on their own homesteading journey. She lives with her family at Mayflower Homestead and is so glad you’re here.

Lucy Olsen

Molly’s sister, Homestead helper

Lucy’s journey with Mayflower Homestead started as Molly became more and more interested in expanding her home garden and chicken coop into something bigger—a farm! Or maybe just a house with more land?!—all while expanding her family. Lucy loved eating Molly’s veg and eggs, and honestly, didn’t want for it to stop! So, she became Molly’s helper—eventually overseeing what grew into Mayflower Homestead.
